Catching up

Wow, this blog is pathetic, isn't it? It's okay, just say yes, I know it's true. :)

Okay, so school has started back, and I'm no longer working at the restaurant. I did get my wish of being homeschooled this year, and it's interesting. Every coin has two faces, after all. On the not-so-bright one, being in closer proximity means Mom and I have more clashes; my self-discipline is getting rigorous exercise every day; and I'm not getting as much physical exercise as I used to, something I'm going to have to remedy. On the bright shiny face, I'm actually studying things I'm interested in for the most part, and actually learning things. Wow! Yea! Oh, and I have a life now, and I'm not tired all the time. That's a big plus.

British Literature is my favorite class. I actually do have a class for that, an hour once a week, after which we're assigned reading and/or writing to do at home. It's great! I love exploring these classics, things I might not have picked up to read on my own, and finding literary gems. This week is Gulliver's Travels. I've read through the first book already, the adventures concerning Lilliput. Swift has an interesting writing style; the story could be a children's tale, yet he has made every effort, it seems, aside from the fantastic places visited by the hero, to make it appear a real account of a man's journeys. I love that.

As far as reading outside of school, I'm nearly through the Twilight saga by Stephenie Meyer for the second time. Man, I love those books! People kept telling me about them, and they always said something like, "They're about this girl who falls in love with a vampire. They're really good!" Honestly, that didn't sound so great to me. What could possibly be so good about a girl falling in love with a blood-sucking monster? I thought of the vampires in cartoons and bad horror movies and in the one other vampire romance series I tried and failed to like (the Circle Trilogy, by Nora Roberts--I didn't even get through the first book, Moregan's Cross). But Twilight is different. Meyer's vampires are totally unique. According to human reason, they should be unbelievable. I mean, super strong, almost indestructable, rock-hard skin, no heart and no liquid of any kind in their veins, not even a need for air...but she hit the nail on the head all the way home and never missed it once. I was hooked, and still am. The love story of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen is a thing of beauty.

Aside from Twilight, I've been reading books about faeries and all their relatives--anything I can get my hands on that isn't really juvenile--because starting October 1, I'll be writing about faeries of my own. More on that later, though.

In other news, I've started applying for colleges. Yea. I really, really hope I get into UNCG, my first choice, because the school looks really awesome, and I already know people there, and I've heard they have a great English department. It looks great, too, from what they have on their website. Oh, and plus, it's just the right distance from home to make it a good idea to live on campus, yet I'd still be close if there was a family emergency or something.

I'm going to really try to update this blog more frequently and not let it get covered in virtual dust bunnies. But right now, I'm going to cut this short and go get some food or coffee or something before getting back to school; I need something to wake me up. No, I'm not tired all the time, but yeah, I'm tired right now.

Blah

So. It's been a really long time since I've written. School's out, for which I'm vastly thankful and I sort of wish it never had to start again. I finally got a job, working in a restaurant...haha, one of the jobs I said I didn't want. Today was the first day for me, and it wasn't so bad. The only part that was horrible was doing the dishes. People think getting their own old food out of their dishes is gross...they have no idea. It was sooo gross! I kept getting pressed to eat or drink afterward, and I just couldn't do it; I was so sickened. Now I'm so hungry I'm lightheaded, but my hands still smell like that horrible food even though I've scrubbed them a zillion times, and that brings back the nausea.

In other news, I've been a very bad girl. I haven't seriously worked on my novel for about a week, because I got hooked on this computer game called Meriani. It's an online, multi-player RPG, futuristic space themed. A couple of friends got me into it. I didn't think I'd like it, and I definitely didn't think I'd take it too seriously. I was rather...wrong. I'm going to try to add to my novel some this evening...or what's left of the day. I'm just so tired. I don't think too much of it is work-related; I only have a four-hour day there, or am supposed to. I was there a lot longer today just because. But it's not a good time mood-wise. I feel like I'm on the edge of one kind of hysteria or another all the time and there's absolutely no reason for it. I'm just tired and totally unfit for company. I need to write and don't want to do a darn thing. I couldn't play Meriani even if I wanted to. My character, Jade, is already fluttery, and I don't want to experience what happens when my bad mood transfers to her ever again. It was unpleasant. *sighs* I just want to sleep and I don't really want to wake up for a long time.

Yeah, that's my life lately. For the record, most of summer has been awesome. But I can't talk about it yet.
